UM creates platform to showcase the artistic endeavors of its students and faculty
The University of Miami has recently launched a new website to showcase the creative work of its arts students and faculty.
The website, TheU CREATES, will feature the stories behind the music, the photography and the fine arts, focusing on those who created the works.
It will also include monthly arts guides. In January, for example, it details the Beaux Arts Festival of Art, a popular art show on the University of Miami Coral Gables campus that benefits the Lowe Art Museum at UM. The Festival is more than 60 years old.
The university is known for several of its arts programs, including the Frost School of Music, the film and drama departments and the visual arts curriculum.
The student body at the University of Miami totals around 17,000 students. With such a hefty number of students, the University found it difficult to advertise many of the exhibitions and events held at the campus, both to the students and general public.
Rudy Fernandez, UM’s senior vice president for public affairs and communications and chief of staff to the president said, “This is a jewel for the community. The U plays an important role in Miami’s vibrant art scene, and initiatives like this elevate the U’s presence in the community.”
