A 13-year-old student at Young Men’s Preparatory Academy was arrested Tuesday after police say he made a hoax social media threat against the Wynwood magnet school.

Miami-Dade school district spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez Diego said Miami-Dade County Schools Police had been investigating the threat since Monday night. She said the student admitted the threat he posted on the social media platform Instagram was a hoax. He now faces felony charges.

No other information about the student or the circumstances of his arrest were immediately available.

Gonzalez-Diego said schools police have investigated 47 written and verbal threats since the beginning of the school year, resulting in nine arrests. She emphasized the drain of valuable police and school resources.
