UPDATE: The lockdown has been lifted, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department and media reports.

Boynton Beach High School went on lockdown for a couple of hours Friday morning, the Boynton Beach Police Department said on Twitter.

By noon, the lockdown was lifted, police say. Representatives from the Palm Beach County School District were unavailable to comment.

WPTV reports that parents have been lining up outside the school to sign their children out for the day after receiving texts that the school had gone on a code red lockdown.

Students were released to parents as soon as the lockdown was lifted after noon, the Palm Beach Post reported. The Palm Beach County School District Police Department is handling the investigation as to why the school went on lockdown.
