Threat to shoot up Miami’s Booker T. High was a false alarm, schools police say
A warning posted on Facebook that Booker T. Washington High School was going to “get shot up” on Monday turned out to be a false alarm, schools police said.
After tracking down the person who posted the threat on Sunday afternoon, police determined that it was “non-credible” and that the person was “spreading gossip,” said Miami-Dade Schools Police spokesman Lt. Raul Correa.
Even so, the school district stationed extra officers at Booker T. High on Monday and worked with the Department of Homeland Security to evaluate the threat, Correa said.
“We take all these threats seriously,” he said.
Miami-Dade school district spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego described the threat as a “prank” but said the extra officers had been stationed at Booker T. High “in an abundance of caution.”
Schools police did not identify the person who posted the threat and it’s unclear whether that person is a student at Booker T. High. The Facebook post, first reported by WSVN, read: “Booker T. finna get shot up on Monday. Don’t say you weren’t warned.” The post has since been deleted.
