School Scene: Broward student is awarded university scholarship

Andrew Virgile of the International School of Broward was recently awarded the four-year Quest Scholarship to Vanderbilt University, in Tennessee.

Andrew Virgile, a senior at the International School of Broward, was awarded the Quest Scholarship. The scholarship pays for four years at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, room and board, health insurance, technology and lab fees, two airline tickets per year to visit family, and spending money. He will begin attending Vanderbilt this summer.

Andrew has been a student at the International School of Broward since 2013. He is part of the Student Government Association and a member of the National Honor Society.

CHAMINADE-MADONNA COLLEGE PREPARATORY

Jason Milgrom was recently appointed as the new head football coach at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory.

Milgrom has coached at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School, in Fort Lauderdale, for 14 years and has been part of five State Championships and two National Championships.

SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES

The 2015 School for Advanced Studies’ ‘A Team’ recently qualified to compete in the Science Olympiad state tournament in Orlando on March 21. The competition included more than 40 South Florida high schools and was held at Florida Atlantic University, in Boca Raton.

Student team members include: Brett Ellinport, Carolina Bermudo, Donna Documet, Greys Dominguez, Mariana Caballero, Raymond Amoyo, Luke Vignau, Fulton Garcia, Shyanne Amoyo, Javier Omar, Valentina Orrego, Jennifer Ortiz, Alexis Hidalgo, Melissa Avila, Ioanna Georgoulakis, Thomas Brockland, Betsy Benitez, Sebastian Lopez, Daniel Sheikh, Ram Medam, Daniel Galindo, Joseph Guerrero, Michael Wakim, Samantha Baste, Alain Garcia and Christina Richards.

FELIX VARELA HIGH SCHOOL

Select students of Felix Varela High School were certified to perform CPR and as EKG Technicians. Some students also became Certified Nursing Assistants.

These students were Veronica Martley, Brian Rojas, Brandon Fernandes, Jose Perez, Arianne Caceres, Midhu Robin, Manuela Barrientos, Sara Sancho, Frances Galarza, Deborah Lom, Dayanara Rosario, Catalina Ortega, Lauren Gomez and Katherine Jackson.

ARCHBISHOP CURLEY NOTRE DAME 6-12 PREP

The Drama troupe of Archbishop Curley Notre Dame 6-12 Prep will perform Little Shop of Horrors beginning at 8 pm. on March 12th-14th at the school, 4949 NE 2nd Ave., in Miami.

There will be a cocktail hour at 6:30 pm. before the March 14th performance. All proceeds will go to future productions of the school’s drama department.
