Man shot dead, another injured in Opa-locka driveby
Two men were gunned down in broad daylight on an Opa-locka street corner early Tuesday afternoon, in a driveby shooting that several people witnessed, police said.
One of the men died at the scene. The other is in critical condition after surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Neither man was named by police.
Interim City Manager David Chiverton said someone opened fire from the passenger window of a vehicle near the corner of Lincoln Avenue and 21st Street shortly after noon. The car then sped off.
Chiverton said police are interviewing witnesses, but gave few other details. Miami-Dade police, which investigates homicides in Opa-locka, described the dead man as a black male in his 20s. By late afternoon Tuesday they had not released any information on the vehicle or the injured victim.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the surviving victim to Jackson’s Ryder Trauma Center after police received reports of an assault in the area.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
