Former Miami Beach chef returned to U.S. to face murder charge

Miami Beach police and U.S. marshals flew to Guatemala to extradite a former Lincoln Road chef who now faces charges that he murdered a woman in 2008.

Mynor Aroldo Garcia Medrano, 31, was returned to the U.S. on Friday.

“The subject was directly transported to MBPD where he is being interviewed, processed and will be charged,” according to a statement released by Miami Beach police, using an acronym for Miami Beach Police Department.

In September 2008, Khala I. Brown was found stabbed to death in an alley of the 1100 block of Collins Court in South Beach. Construction workers reported finding her body. She was 27.

Medrano fled the country by the time he became a suspect. A detective reached out to Interpol for help, and Medrano was soon arrested. He faces charges of second-degree murder.
