Pembroke Pines police are searching for a driver who dumped her car and fled after hitting a motorcyclist Wednesday morning.

The woman was traveling west on Pines Boulevard in a white 2008 Mercedes sedan at about 6:06 a.m. when she hit a man who was going east on a motorcycle at Southwest 83rd Avenue as she turned left.

Gavin Shane Smith, 31, was ejected from his 2008 Yamaha motorcycle and hit a tree.

Smith was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood with serious injuries, Cap. Al Xiques said.

After the collision, the driver took off. Pedestrians at a nearby bus stop witnessed the hit-and-run and assisted police in locating the white Mercedes in a nearby apartment complex, Heron Pond in Pembroke Pines.

Police found extensive damage to the front of the car but no driver. The driver left the car and ran away, Xiques said. The driver has not yet been identified.
