Miami-Dade officer injured when carjackers hit police car

Miami Herald Staff Report

A Miami-Dade police officer was injured after robbery suspects crashed into his car Tuesday night in North Miami.

According to police, the officer, with a partner in an unmarked car, were on the lookout for robbers in the area of 135th Streert and North Miami when they were hit by a Cadillac SUV. That vehicle was stolen in a carjacking earlier in the evening in nearby Biscayne Park, authorities said.

The injured officer was treated and released, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta. He said the carjackers are suspected in the robbery and that the crash into the police car was a coincidence.

Police set up a dragnet in the area Tuesday night, on the lookout for suspects.
