A Miami Gardens teen was shot and taken to the hospital on Sunday. Police took three people into custody.
The shooting is being classified an accident, said Miami Gardens Police Chief Stephen Johnson.
“They were at a party there was another adult in the house in the house who asleep,” Johnson said. “He heard the shot and called the police."
A friend of the shooting victim told CBS4 he would be OK, but Jackson Memorial Hospital has not released an update on his condition.
Police officers swarmed to the scene, in the parking lot of an apartment off Northwest 22nd Avenue and 210th Street early Sunday morning.
“He was just over here chilling with friends and stuff,” said Ryan Hobbs, a friend of the victim. “They were just playing with a gun. It was an accident.”
Two of those arrested were juveniles, 15- and 17-year-old males. Also arrested: Hopeton Witter, 41, who was charged with culpable negligence, like the others, and also resisting arrest without violence.
The victim, who police did not identify, is recovering at Jackson. Police also did not give information on who owned the gun.
