A Princeton charter high school band teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with one of his teenage students, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrested a high school band teacher Tuesday on charges he had a sexual relationship with a teenage girl who was one of his students.

Heihachiro Nakashima, 33, is accused of starting the inappropriate relationship with the 15-year-old in March while teaching at Palm Glades Preparatory Academy, a charter middle-through-high school in Princeton, according to the sheriff’s office.

The relationship lasted until last month when the girl detailed it to Special Victims Bureau detectives, the sheriff’s office said.

According to Nakashima’s probable-cause warrant, the two began talking outside of school after he showed the class a video of him performing with an orchestra. The girl commented that the class should attend one of his performances, according to the report. Police did not say which instrument he plays, but his LinkedIn profile says he is a violinist.

In February, Nakashima invited the teen, one of her friends and that girl’s mother to watch him perform in Miami, the warrant states. Days later, Nakashima and the girl began texting each other, detectives say.

Nakashima told the girl several times that he loved her, but she viewed his comments as platonic at first, the warrant states. He also told the girl that she was “like a daughter” to him, according to detectives.

The relationship became physical in March when he picked her up from her house and brought her to his apartment on the 8200 block of Southwest 72nd Avenue near Dadeland Station, according to the warrant.

Nakashima picked up the girl several more times and brought her to his apartment, detectives say.

On Wednesday, Nakashima remained in jail at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $45,000 bond on three counts of lewd and lascivious battery by an authority figure. Information on his legal counsel was not immediately available.

A representative of Palm Glades Preparatory Academy declined to comment when reached by the Miami Herald on Wednesday.
