A woman was stabbed 34 times after breaking up with her boyfriend of six months, according to the Miami Police Department.

On Sunday, the woman, who had been dating Leisnier Mauri Garcia, 40, since December 2025 rented an AirBnb near the beach for the two of them to spend the day together, according to Garcia’s arrest affidavit.

The woman, while hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital, told investigators that her relationship with Garcia was “generally good,” but there were times when he would become “aggressive,” the arrest affidavit reads. He attempted to assault her during a previous breakup, police say.

While at the AirBnb, the two decided to go to a restaurant and on the drive there the woman got a text from the father of her child, upsetting Garcia, police say. The couple began to argue, and the woman told Garcia she wanted to break up.

They left the restaurant and went back to the AirBnb to pack their stuff and load it into the car when, right before leaving, Garcia told her he forgot something and went back inside to get it, police say. He returned and insisted on sitting in the back seat, which the woman thought was odd, she told police.

From the back seat, he pulled out a knife and began to attack her from behind. The woman was able to get out the car and plead with Garcia to stop, but he continued to stab her, police say.

By the time he stopped, the woman had been stabbed 34 times.

Police say she had 10 wounds on her neck, three on her chest, two on her left forearm, seven on her right forearm, one on her right hand, 10 on her upper arms and shoulders and one on her back.

Garcia was arrested on Thursday. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital for lacerations on his hands. Garcia is charged with attempted murder and remains locked up at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bond status of “to be set,” jail records show. Garcia’s attorney information was not immediately on the Miami-Dade County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller website.
