Miami man caught on video abusing German shepherd in Pembroke Pines, police say
A Miami delivery driver was caught on camera on Wednesday abusing and abandoning his German shepherd, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
While Humberto Exposito, 60, was making a delivery to a Sedano’s Supermarket, he intentionally threw his dog several feet to the ground from the back of a box truck, police said in a Thursday statement.
The incident was caught on surveillance footage around 6:15 a.m. on the 10300 block of Pines Boulevard.
“Exposito returned to the truck after completing the delivery as the dog remained immobile on the ground,” police said. “Exposito made no effort to help the dog and left it behind with no access to food, water, shelter, or protection.”
The elderly German shepherd was rescued and is undergoing medical evaluation and treatment at Broward County Animal Care, police said. The dog is malnourished, has matted hair and appears to have advanced hip dysplasia.
Police later located Exposito, who was arrested and is facing charges of aggravated animal cruelty, abandonment of an animal and confinement of an animal without sufficient air exchange, police said. His Broward court and jail records weren’t available as of Thursday afternoon, and he didn’t have an attorney listed yet.
Exposito’s alleged actions “caused unnecessary harm, pain, and suffering,” and members of the public are reminded “there is no excuse for animal abuse,” police said.
