Police investigating officer-involved shooting near Miami Shores village limits
Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting Sunday on Biscayne Boulevard near Miami Shores village limits, according to a village official. It may have involved a bladed weapon.
A man was shot during an incident involving a police officer, Miami Shores Village Councilman George Burch told the Miami Herald. The officer “didn’t get hurt,” and the man is expected to survive.
Burch said he was informed by the office of the village manager, but he wasn’t at liberty to provide additional details about the shooting. Village Manager Esmond Scott and a Miami Shores Police Department spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a request for additional information.
Miami Shores police, Miami police and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies were investigating as of around 5:30 p.m. on the 8600 block of Biscayne Blvd. It’s unclear what agency was leading the investigation or when or where the shooting exactly happened. There were at least two blocks roped off with crime scene tape in front of the Antiques & Design Mall nearby Miami Shores village lines.
There was a pair of broken, black sunglasses on the ground along with a black backpack and what appeared to be some sort of blade. According to several social media posts on X, someone reportedly brandishing a machete was allegedly shot by an officer or officers.
Daisy Vazquez, 67, lives nearby and was going to a store to get Splenda when she heard shots, she said. Vazquez abandoned her black bike on the corner next to Pinch Kitchen + Bar. She said she saw a man lying on the ground across the street with blood staining his white T-shirt as people crowded around him.
“All I heard was ‘bang, bang, bang,’” Vazquez said.
No additional information was immediately available. This is a developing story.
