A man was shot early Friday morning in Miami Beach, according to police.

Just before 5 a.m., officers responded to the 6700 block of Collins Avenue and found a man with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center by the Miami Beach Fire Department in critical condition.

Northbound traffic on Collins Avenue was been shut down at 67th Street and diverted west to Harding Avenue and Indian Creek Drive.

The investigation caused backups and traffic in the North Beach area. Collins Ave. was reopened just after 2 p.m., according to Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.

A “person of interest” was taken into custody for questioning, a Miami Beach Police Department spokesperson told the Miami Herald.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
