Man shot in the ear at Broward gas station, and cops find suspect in orange car
A man shot a person in the left ear and shoulder early Saturday at a Citgo gas station in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies went to a Citgo gas station, 598 NW 15th St., around 1:30 a.m. to investigate a reported shooting and found a 45-year-old man with two gunshot wounds, an arrest affidavit said.
When a deputy asked the man who shot him, he responded, “It was Vic. He lives off 6th and 15th,” the affidavit said.
Surveillance footage from the gas station showed a man and the victim appearing to get into an argument, the affidavit said. The man then grabbed a black handgun from his jean shorts and fired twice. He “calmly walked away from the scene,” as the victim fell to the ground and tried to run away.
Based on the initial information, a deputy advised over the radio that Victor Steven Boyd, 43, of Deerfield Beach, matched the shooter’s description and drove an orange Buick.
A Broward sheriff’s helicopter spotted the Buick in Margate and captured footage of Boyd throwing an object, believed to be a gun, into a canal, the affidavit said. He got back in the car and left.
As Boyd was driving away, deputies pulled him over in traffic and took him into custody. He was arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon around 20 minutes after the shooting.
Deputies then went to Broward Health North to interview the victim, who wasn’t identified by authorities. He was unable to give a coherent statement because of his injuries. If he didn’t receive medical treatment, he could have died, deputies said.
Boyd invoked his right to an attorney, so deputies couldn’t interview him and “no questions were asked,” the affidavit said.
He was being held without bond Monday at the Broward Main Jail, records show. Boyd’s public defender, Ashlin Morgan, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
