Man arrested for North Miami Beach nightclub shooting near bystanders, police say
A 29-year-old man was arrested Sunday for shooting a man outside a North Miami Beach nightclub earlier this month while surrounded by innocent bystanders, police said.
The incident happened on the evening of May 2 at the entrance of Taboo Miami, located at 337 NW 170th St., North Miami Beach Police Department said in an arrest affidavit.
Officers responded to a report of a man, who was not identified, suffering from a gunshot wound, but two people had already taken him to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Surveillance footage showed a black BMW X6 SUV headed east in front of the club at high speed, the affidavit said. A man got out of the driver’s seat, approached the victim aggressively and pushed him.
The victim hit him in apparent self-defense before he grabbed a gun and shot the victim, the affidavit said. When a detective went to the hospital, the victim refused to provide a statement or submit to gunshot residue testing.
In an attempt to identify the shooter, an investigator ran multiple database and record searches, the affidavit said.
Police positively identified Stanley Guerrier, who had previously been arrested for driving under the influence in Fort Lauderdale, as the accused shooter from the nightclub’s surveillance footage.
An officer then spotted Guerrier on Sunday at a Waffle House in Miami Gardens, and he was arrested without incident, the affidavit said. He had a black Glock inside his bag with one round in the chamber.
In an interview with police, Guerrier confessed to the shooting and “claimed he was acting in self-defense,” the affidavit said.
Guerrier was being held without bond Tuesday on charges of attempted second-degree murder and unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show. He entered a written plea of not guilty on Monday.
Guerrier’s public defender, Maria Ordonez, didn’t immediately respond Tuesday to a request for comment.
