A Miami-Dade County man was arrested late Sunday after firing a gun in the direction of his neighbor’s home, sending a bullet into their bathroom, according to the sheriff’s office.

Cody Richter, 29, was standing in front of his residence in the 34000 block of Southwest 187th Court when he fired a handgun, an arrest affidavit said. He sent a 9mm through the wall of his neighbor’s home, where a man and woman were inside.

When they heard a “loud bang,” they walked outside to see what happened, the affidavit said.

Richter is accused of walking toward the woman with a gun in his hand and shooting twice in the direction of the man, who was near the back of the residence.

The man told an investigator “he was able to feel the bullets whizzing by him,” the affidavit said. They ran into the home for safety and called authorities.

When deputies arrived, they saw Richter standing out front holding the gun, the affidavit said. He later claimed he was shooting at an individual who was harassing him to the right of one of his neighbors.

Richter is accused of attempted premeditated murder and shooting a deadly missile, jail records show. He was being held without bond Monday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office said “we have no comment at this time.”
