Miami-Dade man repeatedly burglarized home, took nearly $14k in property: MDSO
A man was arrested Tuesday for repeatedly burglarizing one Miami-Dade home, allegedly taking nearly $14,000 in items, according to the sheriff’s office.
On Saturday afternoon, the victim arrived at his home on the 1800 block of Southwest 73rd Court Road to find Alejandro Orozco sleeping on his couch holding the resident’s firearm, an arrest affidavit by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
He tried to grab the firearm from Orozco’s hand, and there was a struggle between them, the affidavit said. Orozco, 24, ran out of the residence.
Orozco is accused of returning on Sunday, climbing through the rear window and stealing shoes, clothing, jewelry, a brown wallet, ammunition and an electric bike valued at $13,900 in total.
Video surveillance inside the home showed Orozco returned early Tuesday, but it appeared that he noticed the camera and left without taking anything, the affidavit said.
Deputies found him later that day at Southwest 74th Avenue and 22nd Street, the affidavit said. He was in possession of some of the victim’s stolen property, police say.
Orozco told authorities he entered the residence three times and was in possession of the victim’s gun, the affidavit said.
He was being held Wednesday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show. He entered a written plea of not guilty to two counts of burglary of an occupied structure, armed burglary and third-degree grand theft.
General Counsel Guy David Robinson — of the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, which is representing Orozco — said “we have no comment at this time.”
