Troopers arrested two men after a high-speed chase on Florida’s Turnpike early Wednesday morning ended with a BMW crashing into a guardrail.

Three troopers were parked at the entrance ramp near Northwest 74th Street at about 1:30 a.m. when a BMW 530i blew past them in the southbound lanes at around 100 mph, the men’s arrest report states.

One of the troopers caught up to the sedan and clocked it at 111 mph, according to report. Troopers turned on their emergency flashing lights, and the car pulled over onto the right-side emergency lane.

As a trooper walked up to the car, the driver sped off, prompting the trooper to get back into his patrol car and pursue the BMW, according to the report.

At this point, three FHP cars were chasing the BMW, which was driving at more than 130 mph, according to the report. The driver took the mile marker 25 exit onto Southwest Eighth Street, about five miles from where the pursuit started, lost control and crashed into a guardrail.

Both men in the car got out through the passenger side door and ran away. The driver, 25-year-old Shemar Amory Rattray, ran southbound before he was stopped by a trooper at gunpoint, the report states. The passenger, 25-year-old Jerrell Anthony Louis Watson, ran northbound, but was caught by two troopers, according to the report.

As of Wednesday, both men were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Rattray faces charges of fleeing and eluding police at a high speed, resisting arrest without violence, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. A judge set bond on three of the charges so far at $1,500, according to jail records.

Watson is being held on a $500 bond on a charge of resisting arrest without violence.

Information on both men’s legal representation was not immediately available. Records show Watson has a pending fleeing and eluding case from October when he was in a Toyota pickup truck and led troopers on a chase that started on the Dolphin Expressway and ended when he lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over on the Turnpike, according to his arrest report.
