Is masked man peering into cars the same person as burglary suspect who crashed?
A burglary suspect crashed into the front of a home early Wednesday in southwest Miami-Dade shortly after surveillance footage captured a hooded man peering into nearby cars.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies responded around 3:30 a.m. to reports of a residential, in-progress burglary in the area of Southwest 58th Avenue and 47th Street, Detective Angel Rodriguez said.
While deputies were conducting a patrol of the neighborhood, they spotted a suspicious car and tried to conduct a traffic stop.
The man driving the vehicle sped away and crashed into the front of a home at Southwest 58th Avenue and 62nd Terrace but there was no pursuit involved in the crash, Rodriguez said.
The driver attempted to run but was immediately taken into custody, Rodriguez said. The man was not identified by authorities.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took him to a hospital, Rodriguez said, adding he was taken there out of caution due to the crash.
An investigation revealed there was no burglary at the original address that deputies were dispatched to, he said. However, detectives found items from a vehicular burglary that happened close to the initial dispatch location.
Home-surveillance footage provided to the Miami Herald shows a masked man peering into cars in the area shortly before authorities were called.
Rodriguez said there weren’t details about what the man who was arrested was wearing or whether he was masked. He hadn’t seen or had knowledge of any surveillance footage, so it’s unclear whether the man spotted in the video was involved in this incident.
No additional information was immediately available Wednesday afternoon.
