A woman was arrested Thursday at Miami International Airport for allegedly killing a man in a drunk-driving crash nearly 13 years ago, authorities said.

Nazia Badal, 44, of Arlington, Texas, was passing through MIA when a U.S. Marshals task-force member discovered she had an active warrant in connection with the June 16, 2013, incident, according to an arrest affidavit.

The crash killed Jose Francisco Zamora, of Opa-locka, the affidavit said.

Shortly after midnight, Badal was driving her Dodge Charger down the 2300 block of Red Road when she crashed into Zamora’s Honda Civic, the affidavit said. She was allegedly speeding at 60 mph in a 45-mph zone.

Badal is accused of having a blood alcohol content of 0.15% at the time and failing to make any attempt to brake or swerve to avoid the impact. Zamora was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told authorities that Badal took off “like a motorcycle” and crashed with the driver’s side of the Honda Civic, which looked like “an explosion,” the affidavit said. He described Zamora’s car as “mangled metal with him stuck in it.”

Badal allegedly showed no concern for Zamora, asking an investigator, “Who’s gonna pay for my car?” the affidavit said.

She was arrested, posted bond and failed to appear in court, court records show.

Badal was being held without bond Tuesday at the Paul Rein Detention Facility in Pompano Beach, Broward Sheriff’s Office jail records show. Her attorney, Joshua Rydell, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comments.
