Shooting at Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust housing leaves teen dead: officials
A shooting at a Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust property on Friday evening left a teenager dead, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
At around 6 p.m., deputies responded to the shooting in the area of Southwest 282nd Street and 125th Avenue. They found 17-year-old Trashawn Foster with gunshot wounds. He died at a nearby hospital.
The shooting took place at the trust’s “permanent supportive housing” in South Dade. A gun was found at the scene, deputies say.
Deputies put out a be-on-the-lookout for a dark-colored car. A car matching the description was found and deputies conducted a traffic stop. Two people in the car were detained, but deputies say they were released, including a man involved in the shooting.
Investigators say there was an exchange of gunfire between Foster and one of the detained people. No charges have been filed.
Ron Book, chair of the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust, thanked the sheriff’s office for its response to the shooting in a statement to the Miami Herald.
“Any loss of life is tragic, especially when it impacts our community’s most vulnerable. We are grateful to the Sheriff’s office for their continued attention to this situation,” Book said.
