A father fatally shot his adult son on Wednesday afternoon inside a Palmetto Bay home, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to a 911 call at the home at SW 92nd Ave and 168th Street around 4:50 pm, said Detective Argemis Colome, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

There was a dispute between the father, who is in his 70s, and his 47-year-old son, Colome said during a press conference.

The father met deputies outside the house, and he was taken into custody, Colome said. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedics said the son was dead. As of Wednesday night, the father was being questioned and had not been arrested, Colome said. The sheriff’s office didn’t identify the father or son.

It was not immediately clear if anyone else was inside the house during the shooting, but a woman was outside the home when deputies arrived, Colome said.

Deputies have responded to the house several times in the past to deal with mental-health calls, Colome told reporters.
