A man accused of shooting another man several times said the other man tried to run him over with his car before he opened fire, Miami police said.

But police say security camera footage showed the car was not moving when 32-year-old Samuel Saint Remy fired into the passenger side 15 times, critically wounding the driver.

Saint Remy was arrested on charges of attempted second-degree murder, displaying a firearm while committing a felony and unlawful discharging of a firearm in a residential area.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. Sunday near Northeast 71st Street and Miami Court, police said. Officers first arrived after receiving reports of gunfire. About five minutes later, Saint Remy called 911 to report that the other man, who police have not named as of Monday morning, tried to run him over, according to the arrest report.

Witnesses interviewed by police said they heard the shots but did not see the shooting.

But the security camera footage cast doubt on Saint Remy’s version of events, the arrest report states. The footage showed the men arguing before the other man got into his blue Nissan Murano and drove past Saint Remy toward the exit of the parking lot.

Saint Remy then reached into his pocket and ran after the car. The car was “stationary” when he caught up with it and opened fire, the footage showed, according to the report.

The camera then showed Saint Remy return to the area where the argument happened and pick something up off the ground. Police wrote in the report that officers could not determine by watching the footage if Saint Remy was struck by the car.

When officers arrived, they began first aid on the driver before Miami Fire Rescue paramedics took him to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in “extremely critical condition,” police said.

Officers found 15 spent shell casings in the area. Saint Remy was carrying a 40 caliber Smith and Wesson hand gun with an empty magazine. He also had another magazine that was loaded with 15 bullets, according to the report.

Saint Remy’s bond information and information about his legal representation was not immediately available.
