A woman was hospitalized after being shot near a Coral Springs shopping center Thursday afternoon, and one man has been arrested in the incident, police said.

Officers responded to the 7600 block of West Sample Road around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire, said Sgt. James Kaban, a Coral Springs police spokesman.

They found the woman, who has not been named, with several gunshot wounds, Kaban said. Paramedics took her to Broward Health North in Pompano Beach.

Kaban said her condition “remains unknown” as of Friday morning.

Police late Thursday night said they arrested 49-year-old Abdul Perez. Kaban did not say the nature of Perez’s relationship with the woman, but said the shooting was “domestic related.”

He was being held in Broward County’s main jail Friday morning without bond on charges of attempted prepremeditated murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or ammunition while being the subject of an injunction and tampering with evidence.

Information on his legal counsel was not immediately available.
