A West Miami bookkeeper embezzled thousands of dollars from her employer from September through December, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Liggia Mancia, 38, was hired by Metal Master Shop in August and given exclusive access to the company’s financial software programs to ensure the money going in and out of the business was legitimate, according to an arrest affidavit. Metal Master Shop, located at 7484 NW Eighth St., is a roofing-supply store.

Mancia is accused of embezzling money through an organized scheme involving the manipulation of payroll, the affidavit said.

She paid herself additional money each pay period, totaling $22,500, without consent from the business, the affidavit said. Financial records showed her utilizing the misappropriated funds for personal gain and “acting with the deliberate intent of defrauding the victim.”

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies found Mancia at her home Wednesday, and she was arrested on several felony charges, including making a false entry in the books of a business entity, second-degree grand theft and organized fraud between $20,000 and $50,000. She allegedly “confessed to the charges” in an interview with investigators.

A spokesperson for Metal Master Shop declined to comment.

Mancia was being held Thursday on a $12,500 bond at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show. The Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office is representing Mancia and had “no comment at this time,” General Counsel Guy Robinson said.
