Arrest at Miami-Dade driver’s license office tied to alleged money scheme
An investigation led to the arrest of an employee of the Miami-Dade Tax Collector’s Office on charges tied to an alleged fraud scheme involving the unlawful issuance of driver’s licenses.
“After months of investigation, our enforcement team uncovered illegal activity involving a former Clerk Officer in our office who has now been arrested and is in jail”, Miami-Dade County Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez said in a social media post Saturday.
According to Fernandez, the investigation — which has been ongoing for several months — has also involved the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office and federal partners.
Authorities identified the employee as Waldersee Oge, a 46-year-old North Miami resident who was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Investigators say licenses were issued in exchange for money
Local 10 reported Friday, citing an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, that Oge is accused of issuing several temporary driver’s licenses to individuals in exchange for money.
According to those reports, investigators reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed the employee issuing driver’s licenses in March to about four people who were not physically present at the office — a practice authorities say is unlawful.
Suspicion arose after a supervisor saw Oge reviewing scanned documents in the customer management system through the Orion database, according to the same report cited by Local 10.
Meanwhile, NBC 6 reported Friday that Oge was found accessing the state database to reinstate suspended driver’s licenses for several individuals. According to that report, the he allegedly consulted with third parties by cellphone at times to obtain information that he then entered into the system.
Univision reported, citing investigators, that Oge told detectives he carried out the alleged transactions in exchange for direct payments through the Zelle app.
Court records show that Oge faces multiple charges, including misconduct in public office, unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior, computer-related crimes, unlawful use of a communication device, unlawful issuance of a driver’s license and falsification of public records.

Response from the tax collector’s office
At a Friday press conference, Fernandez said Oge was immediately removed from the office’s staff after the allegations came to light.
“In addition, our enforcement team is working closely with the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which is currently reviewing all transactions associated with this individual. Any necessary actions related to those transactions will be addressed through that process,” Fernandez said.
Fernandez also said the case appears to be an isolated incident and that, so far, no other employee at the office that handles Florida driver’s licenses and REAL ID cards has been implicated.
“While this remains an active case, it is important to emphasize that the alleged actions involve one individual and do not reflect the professionalism, integrity and dedication of the many employees who serve our community every day,” he said.
For international travelers, CBP has also issued guidance ahead of major events like the 2026 World Cup in cities such as Miami.
According to Fernandez, Oge had been transferred from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) to the tax collector’s office.
