A 43-year-old man was arrested Sunday after he barricaded himself in an apartment during a domestic battery incident, the Homestead Police Department said.

Officers went to the 1600 block of Southeast 29th Court to investigate a reported domestic battery and found Michael Anthony Hester barricaded inside an apartment, refusing to exit, police said.

Homestead police made a perimeter around the building, but he repeatedly refused to comply, according to police. Officers didn’t know if Hester was armed, so they asked the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team to come to the scene.

“ ... [They subsequently apprehended the suspect without incident,” police said.

Hester had an active warrant for a probation violation on an attempted murder charge, according to police. He was transported to the Homestead Police Department for questioning and “charged accordingly” in connection with the domestic battery.

A Homestead police spokesperson told the Miami Herald he didn't have specifics about what charges Hester was facing, as he was waiting on his arrest form.
