Miami Beach Subway employee pulled gun on group over parking dispute, police say
A Miami Beach Subway employee was arrested Wednesday after she pulled a gun on six people in the parking lot, police said.
The dispute happened around 12:40 a.m. at a Subway at 1424 Alton Road, Miami Beach police said in an arrest affidavit.
Officers tried to detain Willnat Shantae Young, 33, inside the eatery, but she tensed up and was taken to the ground, police said. There were six victims outside who made corroborating statements about what happened.
According to the victims, they left a store and realized their car was blocked in by an illegally parked vehicle, police said. One of the victims tried to back out of the parking spot, and Young came outside and “became confrontational and accused them of trying to hit her vehicle.”
Young is accused of asking her coworker for her purse, which had her gun, and returning to the vehicle with the firearm in a low and ready position.
“I am going to knock you all out,” she allegedly said, according to the affidavit.
The victims were in fear for their lives, so they called the Miami Beach Police Department, according to officers.
Young was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, improper exhibition of a weapon and resisting an officer without violence. She was being held Wednesday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show.
Guy Robinson, of the Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office, said “we have no comment at this time.”
A spokesperson for Subway said “we are aware of the situation, but do not have specifics to share at this time.”
“All Subway restaurants are independently owned and operated,” the spokesperson said. “The employee involved in this incident was directly employed by the franchisee and not by Subway Corporate.”
