Homestead man texted undercover cop posing as 15-year-old boy for sex, police say
A Homestead man was arrested Tuesday for messaging an undercover detective, who was posing as a 15-year-old boy, to meet up for sex, police said.
Wesley Javier Benitez, 23, exchanged messages with the detective asking the supposed 15-year-old to send nude photographs and a picture of his penis, according to an arrest affidavit.
Benitez sent the supposed 15-year-old several sexually explicit messages and encouraged him to ditch tutoring and meet up after school at an undisclosed location to engage in sex acts, the affidavit said.
When Benitez arrived at the meet-up location on foot, he was arrested with two condoms in his front left pocket.
He allegedly confessed to police he was texting with a 15-year-old boy and agreed to meet up for sexual activities. The affidavit reported that Benitez told the supposed minor that he was 20.
Benitez is accused of several felonies, including transmitting or distributing obscene or harmful material to a minor and promotion of sexual performance by a child. He was being held Wednesday on a $15,000 bond at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show.
The Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office is representing Benitez. General Counsel Guy Robinson said Wednesday the office had “no comment at this time.”
