A Fort Lauderdale man who is accused of going on a shooting spree in three different cities, leaving two people dead and one injured, was arrested Saturday, according to Miami Gardens police.

Miami Gardens officers responded around 6 p.m. Friday to a shooting in the 3500 block of Northwest 214th Street, police said. Gabriel Floyd Hubbert, 45, was found with several gunshot wounds and taken to the hospital, where he died.

Detectives identified the suspect’s vehicle as a 2023 white Dodge Ram van and issued a “be on the lookout” to nearby law enforcement, police said. While Miami Gardens officers were investigating the homicide, they were notified of a fatal shooting in North Miami Friday night involving the same type of car.

A few hours later, a man was shot in Cocoa, according to that city’s police department. Cocoa police detectives notified Miami Gardens detectives on Saturday they found the Dodge Ram van and arrested Dennard Isaiah Barnes, 35, for a shooting in their jurisdiction.

Barnes was then identified as a person of interest in both the Miami Gardens and North Miami homicide investigations.

Barnes shot a 24-year-old man in the abdomen inside a home in the 1500 block of Clearlake Road in Cocoa, according to Brevard County court records. Barnes was arrested after a car chase with police, who said they found an “AK style” pistol grip rifle in his car.

“This shooting occurred hours after the homicides in the city of Miami Gardens and the city of North Miami Police Department jurisdiction,” police said.

A spokesperson for North Miami police didn’t respond Wednesday to a request for information about the homicide in their jurisdiction.

Barnes, “who is known by all of the victims,” was being held without bond Wednesday at the Brevard County Jail. His charges in connection with the Miami-Dade homicides were pending, but court records show he is facing 19 counts, including attempted second-degree murder and resisting arrest with violence in Brevard County. No attorney was listed.

Miami Gardens police are asking anyone with information about Hubbert’s killing to call Homicide Detective Torray Ryals at 305-474-5300, ext. 1719, or email Torray.Ryals@mgpdfl.org.
