Teen shot during drive-by in West Kendall. Deputies search for shooter
A drive-by shooting in West Kendall left one boy injured and another forced to try to save his friend’s life on Wednesday afternoon, Miami-Dade deputies say. Authorities are hunting for those responsible.
Just after 4:30 p.m., the 15-year-old and 16-year-old boys were walking near Southwest 80th Street and 152nd Avenue when a vehicle got in their way and “hindered” them, Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Detective Samantha Choon said.
Shortly after, shots were fired from the vehicle at the teens, striking one. The other helped his friend get farther down the street to call 911, Choon said.
Deputies rushed to the scene and aided the injured teen before Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took him to a hospital in stable condition.
A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedic radioed dispatchers that his unit was taking a pediatric patient to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm, according to police scanners on Broadcastify.com.
There were no details on what the vehicle looked like or any suspects. Deputies are asking for the public’s help.
“We are asking that if anyone saw anything, heard anything or have any information at all about this heinous crime involving children to please reach out to Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477,” Choon said.
Detectives were investigating at the scene. A deputy was using a flashlight and a police dog to search the road near Southwest 80th Street and 152nd Ave. Deputies also spoke to a teen who appeared to be recounting to them the details of the shooting.
