Driver chased by BSO faces murder charge after other driver dies; chase reviewed
The man the Broward Sheriff’s Office chased late Monday night in a stolen SUV is in jail on a murder charge after the driver of another car not involved with the pursuit was killed in the crash with a deputy, records show.
BSO said its Pursuit Review Board will determine if deputies followed the agency’s rules on vehicle chases.
Sean Holder, 30, of Oakland Park also faces felony grand-theft auto and aggravated battery on law-enforcement officer charges, according to Broward jail records. He’s being held without bond in the county’s main jail.

The chase began minutes before midnight Monday after Margate police issued a “be on the lookout” for a stolen vehicle that was spotted in Tamarac, the sheriff’s office said. BSO said the pursuit began “following an aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, which is a forcible felony,” but did not specify what happened. The Miami Herald has requested Holder’s arrest report.
Deputy crashes into other car
During the pursuit, a deputy’s patrol car and a vehicle not involved in the chase crashed into each other. Paramedics took the deputy, the driver of the other car and a passenger to the hospital, where the driver died, BSO said Tuesday. TV camera footage shows a Toyota pickup truck as the other vehicle.
The sheriff’s office named the driver as 73-year-old Ronald Wilson. The deputy, Brian Quintal, “is currently recovering from his injuries,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Wednesday.
The agency did not say whether Quintal is still in the hospital, nor did it name Wilson’s passenger or provide that person’s condition.
Holder was arrested. On emergency radio dispatch traffic, a deputy can be heard telling colleagues he is breaking the window of the stolen car, a gray Jeep Cherokee, and sending in a police dog to subdue Holder.
Another deputy described the injuries sustained by a person in the car hit in the pursuit as severe, with the person bleeding from the head and eye. The crash happened near West Prospect Road and Northwest 31st Avenue in Tamarac, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident is under investigation by homicide and traffic homicide detectives, as well as the sheriff’s office’s Internal Affairs Unit, the agency said.
Holder has a long arrest history in Broward County going back to 2016, including three previous convictions for grand theft of an automobile, according to court records.
