BSO deputy injured after hit-and run-crash with man leaving strip club
A man was arrested Monday after crashing into a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy patrol car twice after leaving a strip club, , a spokesperson said.
Shortly before 3 a.m., the driver of a black Cadillac Escalade SUV left the Playhouse Gentleman’s Club parking lot at a high rate of speed, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office said.
He lost control and struck a deputy’s vehicle. He then backed up and hit the deputy’s car a second time before driving off on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the office said. The deputy was in his car.
However, the SUV broke down, and the driver, Mervin Coffy, was arrested, the office said. The deputy, who was not identified, sustained minor injuries and was taken for a medical evaluation.
Coffy, 28, is accused of false imprisonment of a person, aggravated battery on an officer, leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property, reckless driving damaging person or property and resisting an officer without violence, according to jail records. He was being held pending a bond hearing Monday at the Broward County Main Jail.
There was no additional information available Monday afternoon about his arrest or his attorney, according to Broward court records.
Broward Sheriff’s Office Violent Crimes Unit detectives are investigating the incident, a spokesperson said.
