Rideshare driver assaulted by passenger in Little Havana, causing crash: cops
A woman working as a rideshare driver was assaulted by her passenger, causing her to crash her car on Saturday in Little Havana, according to the Miami Police Department.
The woman was driving south on Southwest Sixth Avenue near Seventh Street around 1:45 a.m. with Oscar Sanchez Aguire, 26, in her backseat when he “covered [her] mouth and grabbed her crotch,” according to his arrest affidavit.
The woman lost control of the car and crashed into another that had two people in it, the arrest affidavit reads. Miami Fire Rescue examined the injured; it did not say whether anyone was hospitalized, per the arrest affidavit.
Video of the crash’s aftermath uploaded to social media shows two heavily damaged cars with debris scattered all over the roadway and a damaged building.
Sanchez Aguire ran away, but was quickly found in a parking lot on 1177 SW Eighth St., according to police.
Court records show Sanchez Aguire is charged with battery and culpable negligence. He has pleaded not guilty and remained jailed as of Tuesday with an immigration hold. He’s being represented by a public defender.
