Miami-Dade man admits stealing $800,000 of memory cards, sheriff’s office says
A 33-year-old man was arrested Monday after his employer claimed about $2.5 million worth of memory cards went missing from his business, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.
The owner of Abound Trading Corporation called police Monday to report that an employee, Ricardo Jose Blanco Nunez, was spotted moving a box containing 50 Kingston memory cards valued at around $14,750 and hiding it in the company warehouse, according to an arrest affidavit.
From November to Monday, there was about a $2.5 million inventory shortage from missing memory cards, the affidavit said.
An investigator met with Blanco Nunez at Abound Trading Corporation, and he confessed to taking 55 boxes, each containing 50 Kingston memory cards, valued at $811,250, the affidavit said.
Blanco Nunez told investigators he sold the memory cards and spent the money on TikTok livestreams, which are interactive videos streamed by content creators. He was attempting to steal another box Monday but was caught by his boss, the affidavit said.
He is accused of grand theft of cargo valued over $50,000. Blanco Nunez was being held without bond Tuesday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, jail records show.
The Miami-Dade Public Defender’s Office was listed as representing him; General Counsel Guy David Robinson said Tuesday the office had “no comment at this time.”
