A man was arrested Saturday for attempting to fly from Miami International Airport to São Paulo, Brazil, with luggage packed with nearly 82 pounds of cannabis concentrate, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office narcotics squad responded Saturday night to MIA after a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer detained a passenger aboard an international flight because he was in possession of illegal narcotics, according to an arrest affidavit.

A LATAM Airlines ticket counter representative informed an officer around 4:30 p.m. that Jay Jay Jackson St. Louis had checked three bags, which were behind the counter ready to be sent through the luggage carousel, the affidavit said.

Authorities said the bags were filled with several vacuum sealed packages “consistent with previous seizures of marijuana.”

St. Louis was detained and taken to baggage for a full inspection of his luggage, and law enforcement found 37.11 kilograms, or around 81.8 pounds, of hashish inside, the affidavit said.

He took ownership of the bags and its contents, law enforcemnt said. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the airport to arrest him, and he was taken to jail.

St. Louis, 28, of Asbury Park, New Jersey, is accused of trafficking cannabis. He was being held on a $20,000 bond Monday at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, court records show.

Nicholas Nathaniel Stelter, who was listed as his attorney, did not respond Monday to a request for comment.
