Argument about woman turns into shootout with off-duty corrections officer: cops

An off-duty Florida corrections officer was shot at during a jog in Miami-Dade on Jan. 31, 2026, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

An off-duty Florida Department of Corrections officer was out for a jog on Saturday morning when a man shot at him, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the shooting at around 6:50 a.m in the area of Southwest 112th Avenue and 170th Terrace. The corrections officer, who was not injured, told deputies that while out on a jog with a woman, an unknown man in a car approached them and they began arguing about the woman.

The man shot at the officer who then returned fire. The man fled.

Deputies continue to investigate.
