Davie police investigate shooting. One person is dead, report says
Residents and commuters are being told to avoid a stretch of Davie as police officers are investigating a shooting that left one person injured Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.
Davie police have yet to respond to a request for information, but told WPLG-Local 10 News one person died at the scene and another was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
Around 3 p.m., Davie police posted on X that they were investigating a shooting along South University Drive. The department also advised it was not looking for a suspect, but people should still steer clear of the area.
“We are not looking for any subjects,” the post read. “Avoid the area.”
Davie Fire Rescue told the Miami Herald one person was found injured at the Aveda Institute, a cosmetology school at 4186 South University Drive. The injured person was taken to a nearby hospital; their condition is unknown.
According to police scanners on Broadcastify.com, the shooting occurred in the parking lot of the school. Two people were found injured with at least one suffering gunshot wounds. They were in a white Toyota RAV4, a crossover vehicle. It’s unclear what condition the second person is in or if they were taken to a hospital.
According to the scanner, police identified a possible male suspect wearing a blue surgical mask in a parking lot. By 3 p.m., SWAT teams cleared the cosmetology school.
Families worried about students at the school were being funneled to St. David Catholic Church for reunification at 3900 S. University Dr., where the adjoining school was also evacuated, according to the scanner.
