A car driven by a man fleeing deputies crashed into a lake in northern Broward early Tuesday morning, leaving one person dead and another taken into custody.

Just before 4 a.m., the Broward Sheriff’s Office was called to the 700 block of Deer Creek Lakeside Way in Deerfield Beach due to reports of people burglarizing cars. When deputies arrived, the man driving the alleged burglars’ vehicle sped off, ramming the car into a nearby lake.

BSO’s Dive Team, among other units, found a body in the water. Another man was able to emerge from the vehicle — and was taken into custody, according to deputies.

Officials have not identified the men. BSO is investigating the crash.
