Two murdered a man in Miami hotel room over $90K missing meth package, feds say
A South Florida woman and a California man are facing up to life in prison for murdering a man in a Miami hotel room over a missing meth package worth about $90,000, the Miami U.S. Attorney’s Office said said Tuesday.
The victim, identified only as “J.G” in federal court records, was killed on Nov. 29, 2022.
Tsvia Kol, 37, of Hallandale, the woman, and Jimmy Sanchez, 37, of Spring Valley, California, both pleaded guilty last week to causing the death of J.G. and conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a substance containing meth, a federal plea deal shows.
Kol and Sanchez admitted that they believed J.G. stole about 11 pounds of meth, so they met with him in a Miami hotel room to retaliate, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a statement. The feds did not name the hotel.
Kol armed Sanchez with a gun.
“While inside the room, the victim called 911 and attempted to provide his location, but the audio of the call portrayed a physical altercation ensuing and gunshots firing,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. “Sanchez admitted that he shot and killed the victim in the hotel room and left his body, which was not discovered until the following morning.”
Sanchez also pleaded guilty to discharge of a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime, but the charge is expected to be dismissed as part of an agreement with prosecutors, according to the plea deal.
Hotel security footage showed both Kol and Sanchez running away after the killing, the feds say.
Kol and Sanchez’s guilty pleas show the “deadly reality of drug trafficking,” Southern District of Florida U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiñones said in the statement.
“This was a cold-blooded murder driven by the drug trade, where intimidation and greed turned narcotics trafficking into violence and death,” Quiñones said.
Both are scheduled to be sentenced in April.
