The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has taken over a Florida City shooting investigation after a man was found with gunshot wounds on New Year’s Day.

At around 5:50 a.m. Thursday the Florida City Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the area of 501 NW 16th St. Police found a man with gunshot wounds, and he was taken to the hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

“Due to the nature of his injuries and current medical condition, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Homicide Bureau has assumed the investigation in the event the victim passes away,” the agency said in a statement Friday.

No information on the shooter has been released.
