Miami police search for driver who critically injured man in hit-and-run

Miami police are searching for the driver of a possible 2000s Chevrolet Blazer SUV who critically injured a pedestrian in an early morning hit-and-run, according to a news release.

A man was seriously injured shortly before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 36th Street, the Miami Police Department said.

Surveillance footage released by authorities shows the man walking outside a crosswalk, being hit head-on by a car and thrown onto a nearby sidewalk.

The driver parked and attempted to give aid for about three minutes before leaving, the release said. Officers found the man lying on the ground with visible injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains in critical condition. Police are withholding his identity until his next of kin are notified.

The Miami Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit is attempting to locate the driver and vehicle, which appeared to be gold or brown, according to the release. The car may also be a different model of Chevrolet or Toyota SUV. Anyone with information is asked to contact an on-duty Traffic Homicide Unit detective at (305) 603-6525.

“Investigators urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that may assist in identifying the suspect to come forward,” the release said.
