A standoff in a Broward hotel room ends with SWAT taking action, police say

Miami Herald File

A man was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday after a standoff with police in a Broward hotel room, authorities say.

Police found Raul Decasanova, 47, at the Holiday Inn Express, 1701 N. University Dr. in Plantation, after getting a tip on his whereabouts. Officers were seeking Decasanova on several warrants.

But Decasanova hid inside the room and refused to come out, police say. Shortly after midnight, Plantation police’s SWAT team responded, and alongside the Broward Sheriff's Office SWAT team, arrested Decasanova without incident.

Decasanova, who was arrested in November on charges including burglary, is now being held at the Broward Main Jail without bond. Prosecutors say Decasanova violated the conditions of his release pending trial on the November case — leading to his arrest Wednesday.

After the standoff, Decasanova is also facing a resisting officer without violence charge.
