Ex-Fort Lauderdale officer charged with stalking and embezzling around $150k
A fired Fort Lauderdale police officer has been arrested and accused of abusing his power to stalk an ex-girlfriend and steal about $150,000 from a non-profit police association that hosts charity drives, federal authorities say.
Henry Baldwin Lockwood III, 38, is facing charges of stalking, wire fraud, and fraud and related activity in connection with computers, according to court records. He was arrested Friday after the FBI sought charges against him two days earlier.
Lockwood had worked for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department since 2012, most recently helping the agency with recruiting, federal authorities said. He was fired in May after an internal affairs investigation found he “violated department policies,” the police department said.
During his time on the force, Lockwood purchased a GPS tracking device and used it to track a past girlfriend as she went from home to work and social plans, authorities said.
An FBI affidavit filed in federal court states that the tracker was discovered during a vehicle inspection. Lockwood, while on duty, showed up two hours later at the business, went into an off-limits area and took it back, the affidavit states.
He also used illegally searched information about his ex-girlfriend using law enforcement databases, according to the FBI.
The FBI also alleged that Lockwood embezzled around $150,000 while he was treasurer of the Fort Lauderdale Black Police Officers Association.
He used over $70,000 of the ill-gotten gains to pay personal debts and frivolously spent some of the rest on groomers, pharmacies and liquor stores, the affidavit read.
The Fort Lauderdale Black Officers Association did not respond for comment.
