Husband of ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ actress arrested in Gables hit-and-run, police say
A Pinecrest man who is the husband of a ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ actress hit a scooter rider with his Audi Monday evening in Coral Gables and fled from the scene, according to a police affidavit.
James Bailey, 40, is facing one count of leaving the scene of an accident with serious bodily injury, resisting an officer without violence and failing to yield for a pedestrian at a crosswalk. He was driving a white Audi SQ7 SUV.
His wife, model Devon Aoki, 43, had roles in several action films including “2 Fast 2 Furious,” where she starred as a street racer alongside the late Paul Walker.
Coral Gables police say cameras captured the driver leaving the scene, according to the affidavit. The man who was riding an electric scooter sustained serious injuries to his left foot and a large contusion on his left calf.
The pedestrian’s girlfriend told police the driver ran over his left foot, and she frantically asked the driver to reverse, the affidavit said.
Coral Gables and Pinecrest police officers went to the registered address of the vehicle from the camera footage, the affidavit said. The couple live in an eight-bedroom, seven-bath home valued at $9.1 million, according to Miami-Dade property records.
Aoki told police she did not know the whereabouts of her Audi, the report said.
One sergeant spotted the Audi returning to the home, and Bailey was identified as the second register owner of the car, according to the affidavit.
Bailey ran away from police, entered his home and locked the door, police say. He eventually exited his house after looking out the windows at officers for several minutes, the affidavit said.
He was being held on a $7,500 bond as of Tuesday afternoon at the Miami-Dade Turner Guilford Knight Correction Center, according to jail records.
