CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the location of the alleged crime. Kanisa Love was shoved at a shopping plaza at 8099 S. Dixie Highway, according to an arrest report. Her body was found about 500 feet away, under Metrorail tracks at the intersection of Southwest 80th Street and U.S. 1.

A woman was at a shopping center near South Miami on Nov. 14 when a man came up to her and shoved her so hard to the ground that the force to her head ended up a fatal blow, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. Her body was found the next day under nearby Metrorail tracks.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, Miami-Dade deputies and paramedics responded to Southwest 80th Street and U.S. 1 after getting reports of an unconscious woman. They found 32-year-old Kanisa Love dead on the ground under the Metrorail. It is unclear how Love got from the shopping plaza, located at 8099 S. Dixie Highway, to the spot where she was found dead, which is about 500 feet away.

Investigators say surveillance footage captured 45-year-old Jorge Gomez approaching “the victim without any provocation and forcefully pushed the victim to the ground,” according to his arrest affidavit.

A Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office doctor concluded in an autopsy report that Love died of blunt-force trauma to the head and ruled her death a homicide.

Love had been pushed around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 14, but first responders were not called until around 10 a.m. the next day, according to the affidavit.

Detectives located Gomez on Thursday and took him into custody. They say he confessed. He is charged with second-degree murder and remains at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bond still to be set as of Friday afternoon. It’s not clear whether he and the woman knew each other.

Miami-Dade court records show that Gomez has a lengthy criminal history, and has previously charged with grand theft, burglary, assault and battery, misdemeanor domestic violence and various drug charges.

He was convicted of grand theft in 2023 and is on probation until February 2026.
