Suspect in a Little Havana triple shooting was found at hotel near Kendall: cops
The suspect in a Little Havana shooting lives next door to the place where he allegedly shot three people in Friday’s first hours. But Miami police say they found him before Saturday’s dawn, 15 miles away, in a hotel near Kendall.
As of Sunday afternoon, 38-year-old Angelo Garcia is now in the custody of Miami-Dade Corrections.
Garcia sits in Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after his arrest at the Comfort Suites Miami, 3901 SW 117th Ave. in Kendall, on four counts of attempted murder; and, one count each of using a firearm to commit a felony, unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place and being a felon in possession of a firearm. No bond yet.
After entering TGK on Saturday, he managed to get arrested on a charge of battery by a detainee, his sixth such arrest on that charge. The previous five arrests, which involved alleged punching of other incarcerated persons, resulted in no charges being filed.
Garcia does have convictions of selling cocaine and marijuana, trafficking cocaine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Shootings in the night
Herald news partner CBSMiami reports a birthday party was going on just after 1 a.m. Friday at 910 NW 12th Ave., next door to where Garcia lives in a multi-unit house. Closed circuit cameras, Miami police say, showed someone talking with Garcia, who was dressed in black from top to bottom.
An arrest affidavit says the man talking with Garcia claimed Garcia asked the whereabouts of a friend of the man who Garcia claimed had offended him the week before. The man told Garcia the friend was in Cuba.
When the man turned and walked away from Garcia, the report said, Garcia fired a gun “multiple times toward the victims.”
The man, 53, was hit in the right torso, the arrest report. His mother, 75, was on the porch and got shot in the left shoulder. She told police Garcia began throwing rocks at cars parked in front of their home before speaking to her son.
A 26-year-old man told police he exchanged “What’s up?” greetings in Spanish with Garcia before the shooting started.
