Police arrested a military veteran following a tense, hours-long standoff early Friday morning in downtown Miami.

Frederick Kelch, 64, barricaded himself inside a Miami homeless shelter after police responded to a call of a man hiding inside Camillus House, 400 NW Third Court, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

At least one officer fired his weapon during an exchange with Kelch, according to Miami police. No one was injured, police said.

Kelch had pointed his gun at a man and his father, who is a friend of Kelch, outside an apartment and then hid inside. A witness told police that “Fred” was inside the apartment.

After a standoff that lasted a few hours, Kelch was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m.
